The 関東 (kantō) region of Japan lies on 本州 (honshū), the largest island in the country. The Kantō region consists of seven prefectures: Ibaraki Prefecture, Tochigi Prefecture, Gunma Prefecture, Saitama Prefecture, Chiba Prefecture, Kanagawa Prefecture, and Tokyo Metropolis (the capital of Japan).
The Kantō region is home to many traditional Japanese foods and many traditional Japanese arts and crafts. It is also known for having some of the best hot springs in the country. Countless foreign movies (particularly in Tokyo) were shot here too.
The Kantō region has some of the best public transportation in the country, and most of this region can be accessed by it. Because of this, it’s a region popular with foreign tourists. Many other regions of Japan are popular among foreign tourists, too, but the Kantō region (in particular) is always busy. The major tourist spots here are always full of people. However, this region is also popular with the Japanese. Many Japanese people move from other parts of the country to the Kantō region. The number of Japanese moving here (particularly Tokyo) is increasing yearly.
Without a doubt, many who visit Japan for the first time will start in the Kantō region. With many aspects of Japan coming together here, you can experience much of what Japan offers. After visiting this region, you’ll be able to understand (to an extent) what sort of country Japan is. This region has both traditional and modern Japanese culture (popular culture). Whether you’re looking to relax at a traditional Japanese inn, visit several historic Buddhist temples and Shintō shrines, or shop and dine at some of the most luxurious and stylish establishments in the world, this region has it all.
