Japanese Culture



Many aspects of Japan can be classified as “Japanese culture”. Because of this, it’s difficult to sum up in a few words what exactly that culture is. When one thinks of Japanese culture, there’s no doubt that what first comes to mind is traditional Japanese culture. The traditional aspects of Japan include festivals, Japanese clothing, traditional crafts, Japanese martial arts, and much, much more.

However, there is plenty of modern Japanese culture as well. Modern Japanese culture includes movies and Japanese popular culture, a culture that includes cartoons, comic books, and even video games.

There is some culture in Japan that originated in China. Culture such as tea and Chinese characters in the Japanese writing system known as 漢字 (kanji). Originally, Japan was influenced heavily by China. But throughout Japan’s history, a culture unique to Japan, a culture that only Japanese people could have come up with emerged. Among this culture are aspects such as Japanese food and traditional Japanese performing arts.

The culture of Japan is fascinating. By knowing a bit about this culture before traveling across the country, you can get a better sense of what it is you're encountering.
